The primary value of a painting is the aesthetic experience, it's emotional impact, maybe how you relate to it etc. It can be worth money, but any monetary value is a commercial byproduct.
What I'm saying is wrestling inverts that. It is purely commercial, its goal and primary value is its ability to draw a crowd and make money. It can have an aesthetic and emotional effect but that is a secondary byproduct. It is purely functional, it's a con.
