On 5 October 2020, Claffey issued a statement in which he claimed that he did not remember the incident but wished to take responsibility and offered an apology for any wrongdoing. This, Claffey states, is what began the dialogue with WWE management leading to his release. He also claimed that the allegation was an "isolated incident".[43]
