>>6912689Because he has a point. Winning the G1 is unironically the biggest achievement you can get in New Japan. It's an incredibly harsh league filled with full on conpetition, where you can get beat from all sides and consistency is rewarded on a level it isn't anywhere else. Winning the G1 Climax is more of an achievement than winning any singles match, and it doesn't make sense to have your title shot go away to someone that was in the tournament and didn't win it.
I kind of agree with you on the title shot thing, but they can in theory get around that by doing stuff like what Zack suggested he'd do if he won. Chono was always a big deal when he won the G1 (On the top 4 of the company, basically the Naito equivalent). The only truly "nobody" G1 in history I can think of is Goto.
