Why can’t Hollywood/entertainment (wrestling included) create mega stars like they did in the 80s? Is it a deliberate attempt by corporate faggots who want all the dimes for themselves, or is there more to it?

There was only like 4 channels back then and you had to listen to whatever they played on the radio or whatever your local shop got in stock. Now there's an overabundance of absolutely everything. It's why ratings are down for everything as well. Competition from every form of media at all times. People who may have been hooked by hearing a song on the radio are now just listening to their own playlists on spotify.

Yeah but this over abundance of media is owned by only a handful of mega corporations. So really if anything the problem is the lack of competition forcing brands to be creative

No, there's still different brands fighting eachother for your attention as always. Netflix is competing with hulu is competing with discovery/hbo is competing with disney plus, all while they're simultaneously battling against regular television and free stuff like Youtube for your viewing time. And on top of that they're also fighting other things that take up your idle time like music and video games which are entirely different industries. There's only a few conglomerates that "run" everything but all the individual brands are still all still competing for the average person's time and attention.

Yes but what I mean is none of them are going to push the envelope or take risks creatively, break away from the status quo when these conglomerates have a monopoly. It doesn’t matter what platform the consumer is using they are watching their shit.

That's demonstrably untrue, there's never been easier access to strange indie movies/tv/music. That's not what makes something popular or big. That's precisely why nothing will ever be as big as MJ again, there's too many other options for everyone to find exactly what they individually want. Niches are killing the concept of a megastar, not stagnation.

So your saying the streamlining of entertainment would solve the problem. Interesting…. I think streaming is in decline already. More and more services are being bundled with digital/satellite TV as a perk. Perhaps this could solution could already be at play

Not what I said at all. There is no problem. There's something out there for everyone. Streaming as a whole isn't declining but the bubble is bursting of every individual company having a streaming platform. MJ was a mega star because he was what was on TV and he was what was on the radio so everyone was exposed to him. That will never happen again as long as the masses have their own individual spotify playlists and their own instant access to streaming media because they don't have to settle for "whatever's on" anymore.

They just don’t want to rn, they aren’t interested in sharing the wealth or meeting the majority of consumers needs. Niches have always existed but they supplement the mainstream, in some cases even influencing it before being consumed by the mainstream. For example ECW, Grunge.
