Plenty of people have lost shoot fights and remained on top. Hell, JBL was shoot knocked out by a jobber on front of the entire WWE audience and he still managed to have a championship run people look back on fondly. Goldberg was beaten up by Chris Jericho and that hasn't stopped him from being a monster who rakes in millions from sub-10 minute matches.
