The reason they claim homegrown is because they introduced them to a national audience, which is bullshit. It's a branding thing. You see in Europe you would have guys promoted via their heritage and where they are from. In the USA there is no native culture unless you're in one specific marginalized group.
The culture of Americans is consuming and branding. What tv network do you watch the news on, what store do you shop in, what state are you from; these are all branded and enforced. So big company takes ownership of certain guys to brand themselves as being supportive of each of their regions, aesthetics, lifestyles. It's literally just lazy marketing. And if they weren't corrupt they would plug the companies that actually made the guys big on the indies so they could grow and make more stars for them to poach.
