He sucked in NJPW too.
I gave him a few chances and the English commentary was just so godawful I switched to Japanese. I might not know their language but at least the Japanese commentary has some fucking energy behind it.
I hoped I never had to hear him ever again and then he was signed to AEW.
Simply put, JR just doesn’t have it anymore. Commentary constantly needs to pause to explain shit to him while he will go on about old wrestlers he remembers. He has zero excitement towards younger stars outside of eras he is familiar with. He has a hard time remembering moves or even the names of certain wrestlers. He’s just awful and I cringe every time his music comes on because it means he’s coming out to fuck up an otherwise decent commentary team for no other reason than nostalgia pandering.
