Vince had abandonment issues. He was deeply affected by Rock and Brock leaving. Those 2 were supposed be the main guys in the post attitude era. Vince was finally pushing Rock over Austin in 02 and was making Brock the top heel. The 2 of them leaving fucked everything up. He never wanted that to happen again.

thats my stance also. I noticed after rock left he started clamping down on wrestlers a bit and once brock left he got really into killing any overness people would get unless its who he wanted over. hence how we got cena and now roman. vince didnt want anyone getting over to the point they were so big they could leave. chop their legs out from under them basically to stop them from reaching those heights
