But it doesn't, if the Bucks have the third match with FTR and lose there's no one else in the tag division that's been built up, it may as well just be the FTR show at that point. The Bucks dropping to someone else leaves the big third match on the table for the future and gives other people in the tag something to fucking do. Not to mention how much it complicates the potential politics of them holding the IWGP tag belts.

Everything was lining up for FTR vs Young Bucks III with everything on the line. Instead the Bucks pulled a "it doesn't work for me brother" and screwed everything up. Now you have your AEW Tag Team Champs be two singles midcards instead of a legitimate tag team. When your top tag team is holding belts from other promotions while your midcard team is carrying your belt you screwed up as a Booker.

No, no, it fucking was not. The Bucks only got the belts because Jeff KWAB'd himself. SIOG gets good reactions and chemistry, and they decided to keep it together for a bit longer. FTR get the angle of wrestling all over the world and can eventually switch to "Now it's time to focus here" whenever, and you don't add the complication of NJPW being "hey we would like one of our teams to take the belts back now" while they're your champions. And you get to build some other tag teams up so FTR can have some credible threats other than the fucking Bucks.

I think it's far more likely the bucks saw how poorly their matches have been received in 2022 (by live fans, not by Dave) and wanted to leach off Kenny's return.

FTR getting super over out of nowhere and TK having no real plans for what to do or ability to pivot is just standard AEW booking.

Also as far as the Cornette narrative, he's not a villain to the average AEW fan who actually go to shows and watch the product. Dan Lambert and MJF got of the promotion's top babyface reactions when they were just repeating what Corny says on his podcast. If the AEW fanbase is divided on him vs the kid wrestlers, the fans of the kid wrestlers are a real minority.

If you're the booker, you do. At least unless you have a plans change moment. And one of the ways you deal with plans change is by having other interesting stuff you can put in its place.
