They got lucky because they managed to secure some big names but it was still pretty rough. After everyone left it was just Kawada (who is dimes) and Kea (who is not) Mutoh brought in Kojima in what was pretty much a coup since he was primed to be the next IWGP champion. There was also a couple big name freelancers they could rely on like Tenryu, Kensuke Sasaki, and MiSu. They also had this guy SUWAMA who was like their Tanahashi but nowhere near as dimes. I think he was the only rookie they trained for like 10 years. SANADA, Manabu Soya, and Kai were three other rookies they had who never got pushed but you already know what happened to the first one. In terms of gaijin it was pretty fucking bad with Chuck Palumbo and IRS getting brought in. The one exception who proved to be dimes was Joe Doering who they actually made champion cause he was doing a Stan Hansen gimmick and the guy's like 6'4. It was a lot like current NOAH where only Mutoh and his buddies could be champ and all the young rions had to eat shit.

Literally all I've heard about besides the 90's era, which I saw a few matches from and they are based, was Kento Miyahara. I heard it's good if him is in the main event but the undercard is usually shit. Seems like NOAH took its place as no 2 jap fed lately since I hear more about it now, but literally all my wrestling news has come from here for the last 6 years

Would it be worth anything for NOAH and AJPW to just cut their losses and try and reconcile and merge? Im sure there are plenty of reasons why this hasnt/wont happen but would it even do anything?

A lot. Their roster was left with a bunch of antidimes after everyone else left. The last 10 years have been brutal. The undercards are entirely skippable and the main event is always Kento Miyahara. Miyahara is good the first however many times you see him, but after awhile you realize that he's the most generic main event guy in Japan.

It had moments and Mutoh booking is fun but that wasn't the right thing for all Japan. Akiyama managed to make ajpw really great for a bit and it started to grow again but something happened and there was a horrible booking decision I forget what it was but akiyana was gone soon after and it went to shit again. Now Akiyama is killing it in ddt and used better than he was in ajpw.
The best all Japan guys when I last watched were Jake lee, miyahara,the big ddt guy who left to work there and I forget his name and a kdojo guy who was cool

If cyberagent bought all Japan they would probably benefit and get to borrow guys, which they can do anyway. I don't see that happening. Best bet is another big company buying them and promoting them hard but they would need to set up a dojo and try hard to convince guys to come to it.

as someone who was huge on Kento for like two years this couldn't be more true, the guy is one of the most overrated shitters in Japanese wrestling using the exact same match formula in every fucking match without ever trying to add something fresh or original, sells nothing no matter how much you work on his limbs he's getting up two minutes later, spams knee strikes to absurd levels, has goofy ass facial expressions that make Omega look like a top actor and so much more
