If the screwjob happened even 5 years later, fuck even if it happened in 2001, it would not have received the shock reaction it did. Look at Austin’s heel turn, no one gave a shit and it was something the fans just pushed away. Part of that was bad booking but the differences between the Screwjob and Austin’s turn is night and day.
Something like the screwjob will never happen again because the business doesn’t take itself seriously anymore and the fans sure as hell haven’t taken it seriously in 15+ years.
