Punk may or may not have influenced Colt Cabana almost not getting his contract renewed. But the EVPs went to bat for Colt.
Hangman cut a promo to Punk's face, implying that Punk is a backstage politician. Since Eddie Kingston also cut a similar promo on Punk, the public didn't really think anything of it. But apparently, Hangman went into business for himself and wasn't supposed to bring that up.
Punk beats Hangman to become champ, but gets hurt almost right away and is out for months. He comes back and immediately goes into business for himself. He's in the ring to cut a promo for a match vs Moxley at All Out. But he calls out Hangman instead. Since Hangman wasn't supposed to be involved in the promo, he didn't go out. This made Hangman, the protag of AEW, look like a coward and a fool.
A couple weeks passed, Punk wins at All Out to become champ again. Then during the media scrum, he buries Colt Cabana and the EVPs.
So yeah, he's been publicly burying the other top guys and even the company itself, but doing so in a setting where the people he's burying can't defend themselves, because they're either not there or don't want to start a public kerfuffle.
Punk might actually succeed where Triple H failed by killing AEW.
