No one has ever been able to answer what significant value Colt Cabana brought to AEW as an onscreen character, before and after he came in. Joey Janella did more than him. Got released. Brian Cage did more than him. Got sent to ROH.

Ultimately, The Elite see AEW as their company and didn't want Punk there, not only because he's a bigger name than them but because he's been critical of the style of wrestling they do in the past. Tony wanted him because he knew he needed bigger stars. This has caused resentment on both sides and it came to this.

The Bucks were actively trying to get Punk from the start. At the time, Cody was the one that botched it.
The Punk resentment is really all about Colt, it's fucking hilarious. There's other shit that's secondary, like Punk running down the Elite's drawing power, and the Elite shooting on Punk/FTR doing a Bret tribute act, but it's only coming out because of the perception Punk had Colt "removed"

This is Tony's fault for giving them titles to begin with. It's not their company, never was, never will be. Tony owns it. If he had a spine and common sense he would have put down his foot long ago and made those guys recognize this and get humble and ego checked.

It has NEVER worked out when active wrestlers are also in the office. Committees never work out either. JCP, WCW, TNA, never works. Because this always happens.

Cody didn't fuck up anything. He took up for the company publically because he's the only one who's willing to do it and can do it in a professional manner. Whenever anything went wrong in the early days, he was the guy who volunteered to take the blowback from it, same when people criticized people Young Bucks hired, he stuck up for them and said give them a chance.
