You started at the absolute bottom of the pile on fucking Velocity and Sunday Night Heat beating nobodies before you clawed your way up to a title shot and you had to get 5 months of wins to get even to that. The only bitch about that game is that you couldn't have title matches in exhibition modes, but fuck me, did it eer make winning any of the championships in season mode all the more real and it felt like an accomplishment, from the tag to the European title, to the Hardcore. You really felt like you earned it. All the while you're going through probably one of the last best periods wrestling of that era had all before the brand split really happened after Bischoff arrived. You play through the NWO return, the Hogan vs. Rock match with yourself as the Rock at Mania, Triple H's return; the whole season is wild.
And that games move-set suite was off the hook. This is when we had a lot of the ECW guys with unique submission holds and a lot of more obscure moves from Japan that hadn't hit North America yet or seen in years. That game still looks good to this day, plays like a dream, and is ahead of its time that the others just couldn't compete with it. Its literally in a league of its own because so much changed in the series after it came out.
