>>7132585Having a joint bank account with your parents is actually very sensible once they get past a certain age. There is a big difference between being Bix where you literally have nothing but a social security check and a computer and understanding that sorting those things out after someone has died or is in hospice is an absolute nightmare. This also makes it much easier to help them keep their finances straight if they develop memory problems or similar issues. People with dementia can (and will) drop tens of thousands of dollars from their savings panicking that they think they are behind on bills or purchasing things multiple times.
Also, as happened to me, if you have a well paying job and your parents are living on their pension it makes it much easier on them to help pay their bills than making them ask for money or trying to hand them cash. Towards the end of their lives I was covering probably 50% of their monthly expenses but did so without ever having to make them ask. It never came up and if they never knew at all they were probably happier for it.
