Moxley is clearly the ace of AEW he carried the company through the pandemic as champion, he was a major part of giving AEW credibility early on, helping rebuild the relationship between AEW and New Japan, and then picking up the slack when Punk was injured the first time. Tony is a Punk mark though and wanted Phil to be in the ace position. Moxley stepped up because he like he says he is truly the heart and soul of AEW. Moxley doesn’t have to work indies he does it because he loves it. Moxley works his friends promotions, and then helps younger guys get spots on dark. Moxley got his friends jobs in both WWE and AEW. Punk was going to get Moxley’s dream match against Tanahashi before Phil jobbed to his own fragile vody doing a stagedive. Punk is an active locker room cancer who whines and cries his way into getting what he wants. Moxley doesn’t. Phil resents Moxley for truly being the ace of AEW, while Moxley is most likely pissed at Phil politicking his way to the top and being selfish about it.
