>>7314767>>7314774It's VDS because he reintroduced them and people are ashamed of the hobby. Yet smarks act like that wasn't what got them into wrestling.
They want others to watch and not make fun of it and them by proxy. They think serious "I'm a wrestler" gimmicks are the way to go about it but normies also love the goofiness and showmanship and just hate the wrestling.
But it's not even goofy gimmicks, wrestlers just need something. And even in the "serious" NWA and territories, there were still gimmicks.
It's ironic that in the days of comic movies making billions they clamor for serious gimmicks in wrestling. Though social media has kind of made it unavoidable I guess for there to be zero separation between the gimmick and the wrestler.
>>7316444Gorgeous George was the first superstar gimmick. There were others like the Sheik of course. But before George they were mostly just wrestlers and some wrestlers like Thesz hated gimmicks. Between them and Vince wrestlers with gimmicks came and went. WWF was the probably first to go full bore with it though, but of course there was lucha libre too.
