Couple of things happened with Memphis:

- The territories died and they no longer had good talent to bring in

- Lawler preserved his own spot instead of putting over new people

- The creation of Raw really hurt them as they ran on Mondays and the Monday Night Wars as the final nail in the coffin as they had to compete against two different shows

- Cable also didn't help them as they had to compete with WWF, NWA, AWA and other shows/sports

This thing television, which produces more capital and draws higher numbers than the whole of wrestling taken together before it. It's also infinitely more complicated and expensive to produce than house shows and small promotions that run towns like a Burnt Scrotum NM, and Boondock West Virginia. Redneck carnies treated wrestling a traveling low budget carnival. Then Vince showed up. There is only one single person on Earth who has ever turned a fed into a billion dollar industry and that is Vince, and that is because to run a successful fed you have t be able to out carny anyone, and that is Vince. The argument isn't fuck Vince and no one cares that he made a billion dollar company. Wrestling was much more popular when it has territories and it should probably never had become a national business. It's a microcosm of localism vs globalisation. Vince is based and had the urge to take over, he's like a Rockefeller, but long term it's not good.

No it wasn't. Not by any stretch of metrics. This is just a straight lie that isn't true. Wrestling's booms have both been in the TV era and it has only benfited from going mainstream. Anyone saying otherwise is coping. It's like arguing that football was better and more popular when it wasnt a televised league and was composed of inner city games

Anon,Hogan-era and AE were only booms by television and merch metrics. As far as number of people being exposed to the product, wrestling hasn't boomed since the 70s. You're just regurgitating WWE Network Special nonsense.

Every boom period has involved tv, yes...but both of the biggest boom periods involved stiff competition between the top two companies. That second boom period ended right about the time that Vince purchased WCW and ECW, and thats not a coincidence.

The whole point of the business is to make money and get the biggest crowds. Your argument for something being amazing is 100k attendances. Big crowds right? TV attendance and stadium attendances were both well passed that in the TV era. Stop trying to argue something that you cant win. If you LIKE that pre Tv era ok. Say that. Thats subjective. But objectively it was not more popular than the TV era and that cant be argued.
