I remember for years a lot of people thought Cody was sucking up to the Elite/BC stuff just to prove he is megastar to get back to WWE and I never really believed it until he went back there.

Punk guys suck up to him because they think he is some kind of role model due to his promo style.

Elite guys are guys the Elite met in the indies and Japan, with which they kept a good relationship.

Cody guys are those he mentored personally.

There are some guys who are in various camps, from what I have seen. For instance, Ricky Starks is a Cody guy and a Punk guy.

Both sides have said they're still friends and speak to each other regularly. Continuing to work with friends when you just can't reconcile your philosophies is a way to stop being friends, so they stopped working together.

I still think the main issues were Punk and Tony being too much of marks, but that's not an excuse to try and bury the fact that Cody's relationship with The Elite had badly deteriorated since the formation of AEW. At that point RttT was being filmed during the Anthony Ogogo, the show's first big moment was the "I solved racism by having a mixed baby" promo. Knowing that they had another half a year of working together on such ill terms plus the fact that said terms would get worse over time really speaks to the dysfunction of the company during that time. However nowadays they find themselves where the tables seemed to have turned.
>Cody feels much more natural in the WWE and it's worked to his benefit with this first run
>The Bucks are stuck in a place where they've gained a stained reputation and can't escape in the event that Tony doesn't grant them their release
>Kenny is having a nice paid vacation to Japan to shill the game, play SF6, fuck Kota, and get a Yakuza model; will most likely not extend his contract and then go to wherever gives him the most money

Kenny will probably try to sue to get out of his contract, keyword try. I think he'll try to have a legal tussle Until Tony is forced to grant his release in exchange of Kenny dropping the case. Might mess with Kenny's rep for a bit but the long term damage will always be with AEW, the people who could've avoided all of it by granting the guy his release when he asked it.
