The set of matches between Carder, HBK and HHH were the best ones. The story of the two of them trying to beat Carder, then having it end from a combination of their finishers after being beaten on their seperate tries? Agreed, that should have been the final one. He should have retired then and there.

Unstoppable Super Cena at his absolute peak vs streak Taker is a fantastic setup. Some matchups have plenty of story without history between the competitors.

Taker and Cena do have history though. They fought and fuded Frequently during RE.
Hell, Deadman Taker needed to cheat the last time they fought in singles while Cena was fighting clean. Nothing came from even that.

They always needed to have a match at mania and when they decided to do it, the angle was that Cena wasn’t important enough to have a match with and he kept ignoring him. Fucking insane. Haitch would’ve never booked himself like that.

HHH should have never faced Taker at WM 27. The buildup was stupid (remember how disappointing it was when HHH showed up on Raw to silently point at the sign, especially after all those Sting rumors?) and the match sucked. It was boring and even though Taker won, he came out looking weak so then they had to do it again at 28 to make up for it.
Also Brock should have never broken the streak. He really didn't need it and it made every Taker WM match after that mean much less - especially vs Reigns

Either way, as long as the streak was intact, Cena should’ve gotten a mania match for it at some point.
Hell, at WM27 it would’ve been a bigger deal for Rock to interfere in that to start “once” in a lifetime than for Rock to get involved with Cena/Miz

Wow thanks for reminding me just how disappointing this truly was. 22 seconds of anticipation to reveal a character everyone knew would be coming back soon anyway. But the hope that we'd be getting a new toy was still alive until H's music hit.
Let me remind you the wrestling world was shidding and farding their pants with excitement at the idea of Sting challenging the streak. And there were also rumors that the vignettes could be for a debuting Tyler Black. But no, you're right Anon, HHH challenging Taker (again) was much cooler than either of those would have been.

Objectively wrong. It would have been cool and gotten Orton heat, but clearly it turned out Orton didn't need that rub.
A lot of people don't realize that this was the first year that "The Streak" was promoted significantly and was something the fans even cared about. If Orton won this match, it would have taken away from every Undertaker WM match from 22 to 30

Yes, Orton should’ve won that match before it became a massive thing ending in disappointment. You could’ve had future matches with Taker that didn’t have to autopilot itself into the streak. If Orton didn’t win that night, no one should have.

Regardless of your opinion, the streak was a cash cow for ten WrestleManias (21-30) and especially 25-29 (even if HHH shouldn't have been involved) it was one of if not the biggest draw on the card.
Ending with Orton would have ended up costing lots of dimes.
