It makes me wonder if Vince retired just to squash AEW like a bug, as one final act of destroying yet another wrestling promotion, something that Vince did routinely throughout his career. Remember that even retired, Vince owns a large portion of WWE stock, including voting stock. If WWE does well, Vince stands to make a hefty profit from it.
