>>7452951It's always been like this. Wrestling fans are just retards when it comes down to it. They're complete marks for the WWE brand, much like a lot of the wrestlers are too. They'll bitch and moan about WWE but in their minds it's also incapable of committing a truly unforgivable sin. No matter how badly WWE fucks up, they'll still come crawling back in the end of the day and forget it ever happened.
The standards for other wrestling companies are much harsher because they don't have a WWE logo slapped on their shit. It's not just AEW either. When TNA was the competition, marks were much quicker to shit on their bad ideas and nonsensical booking than when WWE were doing the same thing. That's why it was LOLTNA, but never LOLWWE. When Lucha Underground started out, the marks were hailing it as the next big thing. But because it was an even smaller fed, they gave it even less leeway. All it took was putting the belt on Sexy Star (even though she dropped it a couple of weeks later) and everyone suddenly stopped watching it. It was one strike and they were out, and the same people went back to WWE who can strike out as many times as they like and never truly lose their grasp on the marks.
Wrestling fans are a lot like Disney fans in that way. They're marks for the brand and the brand can ultimately do no wrong.
