I literally just watched some of his matches in WCW and they were really entertaining and the fans seemed to be into it he had clear star potential, Literally how did WCW fuck this up? Are they fucking retarded?

Yes, WCW was retarded. Russo takes all the blame but Bischoff was the one that really fucked up WCW. The entire attitude era was on a WCW roster at one point, Mankind, Eddie G, Jericho, Haitch, StoneCold, even Undertaker. Everyone except for Michaels and the Rock. Vince was right in the sense that you can't sacrifice the future for the present, but he definitely cut bait with Hulk and Savage too soon. Vince got really lucky that WCW just vomited talent in his direction, which doesn't make any sense to me and where Bischoff really fucked up. They have all those dudes sitting at home on contract, maybe they should have spread out some of that money to keep Austin and Jericho around, but they were too busy pushing the piece of shit Goldberg and letting Hogan run their company.

Eric "room temperature IQ" Bischoff's policy was to lure away all of the WWF's talent with higher pay made possible by Billionaire Ted. Filling the roster with establised wrestlers meant Austin's path was limited.

Urban legend (spread largely by Scott Keith doing his revisionist history essays on pre-NWO WCW lore) says they did have plans for Austin with him going into 1994 being told that he would have a feud with then babyface Ric Flair. But Hogan got signed and through him, Hogan's friends and Austin had his push canceled and then utterly demoralized when he was jobbed out to Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

While they were busy pushing Hogan's NWO stable in ways it should never have been pushed (Latino World Order, Wolf Pack, etc), they were ignoring dudes like Jericho, Eddie, Benoit, and Austin. I dunno, maybe sacrifice the Wolf Pack and give some of that air time to some new guys you are developing.

I'd agree. People don't give Savage enough credit for having a mind for the business. Came from a wrestling family. He knew the craft. Even stuck around and played the Elizabeth angle because it was about business for him and it wasn't personal. I'd take Savage over Hogan any day. But they both had marketability.

His feud with Flair in 1995 was dimes, pretty sure it was one of WCW's most successful programmes and he showed he still had it. Vince wasting him on commentary was a crime. I'd loved to have seen how he adapted to the Attitude Era

I would believe this one. A lot of Austin and Pillman's push was because of Dusty (whose influence waned after returning in 1991 and being on the booking committee). Bischoff definitely got control of booking and brought in Hogan. But Dusty had a mind for the business and, in my opinion, the big mistake was abandoning the core of wrestlers Dusty helped develop for a quick and temporary ratings win brought by Hogan. Dusty was pretty much just on commentary after 1995 and that was a mistake, which lines up with Austin's slight push being killed and Hogan arriving.

Yeah, not true at all. No one in the business has a bad thing to say about Dusty. The dude was all about relationships and helping out other wrestlers. Flair, not sure about one, but I believe hearing an interview with Austin where he complimented Flair for helping him out, although that one may be headcanon, my memory is failing me at times.

It was after Hogan returned to WWE in the early 2000's and Hogan wanted to work a program with Stone Cold. Austin refused because of the history there, not sure if it was specifically history with him, but Hogan was infamous for changing up the agreed programs to his advantage and Stone Cold didn't want any part of that. Some of that may have been his relationship with the Hitman.

If you are talking about WWE, you have a point, but let's not bring the console wars into this thread. I can argue the same thing with AEW and them pushing the Elite and Punk and burying their younger talent. Example from recent Ramage, taking Wardlow (a legit home-grown star) and pairing him with Samoa Joe. Wardlow doesn't need that shit, he's over more than Joe. Also you have Hobbs and Brian Cage sacrificing screen time to a dude like Sting. And they broke up Jurassic to apparently not push Jungle Boy? The booking is equally as stupid one the other side of the console wars.

Nah ... it was all about Hogan and his profile. He wasn't thinking about the company. Hogan literally debuted in WCW beating Flair (credit Flair for being a pro and agreeing to it). His literal debut match was beating WCW's biggest star. Then, instead of doing a program with someone on the WCW roster, he brings in Brutus Beefcake and works a program with him. Then proceeds to put himself over by beating Vader and Luger. The Southern Crowds were so sick of his shit that his only option was to turn heel and make a play off of "Hollywood" to make it work.

It was honestly the big turning point because they closed in huge once that feud started. The NWO was what got them over but the Savage vs Flair feud was really big for them. They started doing well on Houseshows and attendance.

I agree that Savage was a bigger loss than Hogan. Savage was far more willing to put talent over and wanted to put Shawn over and Vince said no. Why waste him on commentary? Then, Piper comes in the same year he was in WWF and does even bigger business in WCW. Vince had no clue what the fuck he was doing from 93-96 and it showed.

Lot's of different people have gone on record here and not sure what is a work or not. Hogan himself said there was heat there, but attributed it to the Rock and Austin being jealous of the crowd reactions to the NWO. Austin in a interview with Jim Ross said it was because he felt Hogan was a few steps behind him and because of Hogan's reputation. Recently, Austin has backed off that statement. Who knows what is a work here, but I think it's reasonable to assume Austin in 2002 wouldn't have seen the benefit of a Hogan/Austin program, especially since he walked out a few months later. Also, I don't buy into the whole injury bullshit. Austin stepped in the ring with Owens, so he even at this age he's not super concerned about injury, why would be have been 20 years ago?

You are right about Hogan being a piece of shit. I'd disagree about Sting though. Sting protected himself well. They had to bring a fake Sting in for Hogan to work with because Sting was cautious AF. Sting was smart and played that situation well with the Crow Sting. Flirting with the NWO worked out better for Sting than it did for Hogan. One of the few dudes that escaped that shit relatively unscathed.

And as a side note, if WCW wasn't retarded, after Starrcade '97, they move on from the NWO. Hogan had dropped the belt to both Luger and Sting (Luger was for 5 days though) and the NWO had run it's course. They started to do this with Hogan turning on Nash (probably to eventually move the belt to Goldberg), but then fucked the whole thing up by having Nash beat Goldberg and then literally lay down for Hogan. Regardless, shitty booking by Bischoff and this was literally the point that WCW was unable to return from.
