I think the early fall 97 roster was about the best "cast" the WWF ever had in terms of great characters both visually and for archetypes. We had Faarooq as a semi-main character, Slaughter as a very entertaining and believable commissioner, etc.
In early 98 I already missed Bret and Bulldog and we were about to lose Shawn and Ahmed. Even Sunny was on her way out.
I really loved that cross-section of New Gen stars alongside Austin, Rock, Foley, HHH etc. Great roster. All those debuts after Mania like X-Pac, Val, Edge etc don't do much for me. Maybe I'm just more of a New Gen guy at heart.
