>>7486063Matches are better when they have a story to them. There's a reason most of the highly praised matches of all time were all part of stories/bigger builds and were usually on big shows.
Wrestling is fake. Every match can have a story to it or be part of a story since it's controlled and scripted. It's not always easy, but it can be done. Soap Operas have been coming up with 5 stories a show, 5 days a week for 60 years. When they run out of ideas, a writer or actor get fired, sent away for a while or an actor takes on a new personality. It doesn't always have to be this long term master plan, but it's just giving people an idea of where wrestlers heads are and what their motivations are. That's a lot of what promos are, but Tony has a roster full of guys who never cut promos regularly, so they aren't that good at it.
There's nothing wrong with wrestlers competing for a spot or a purse...but AEW never runs those storylines and never tells us they are even when random jobbers on Dark legitimately are competing for roster spots. Maybe if they did, random matches on Dark would be more interesting. And it takes no effort at all to say "this match is for $1,000 with $750 going to the winner", but they've never done that.
