He needs to build up a real look and develop a character. Cena is iconic. Shawn Michaels' name alone commands respect. Meanwhile McIntyre is just there.

Yeah but Cena is iconic because of his booking and how he was the face of the company for even longer than he wanted and deserved, Shawn is a legend so I'm not arguing with that but drew is from an old era where faces and heels were still obvious that's why he was the chosen one back then, guy has great matches and great looks but they didn't pull the trigger at the right time (AKA 2018/2017)

I've stopped watching wrestling after Clash (I only await Sheamus' IC title win and then I'm truly done). Yes it seems so. His first wwe title was with no crowds, and even at WM 37 he was made to lose (with the shitty wwe title picture they booked).

Yes I have no denial of that Cena is probably the best promo of the last generation but that doesn't mean the guy was booked like a monster over people who could've been bigger than they are for his sake, but I understand it's the price of making a marquee superstar

The reasons i can't get behind Drew is, first, the horrible booking and fighting with Usos to get to Roman and then getting shafted by another samoan to no end. He gets shafted every time and nobody bats an eye in kayfabe about it. Roman might as well just drive a truck over him for all the consequences it wont have.
Secondly he hangs with career-killers like New Day for draw support in cringy comedy segments. Watching Braun fall in the same trap again recently doesnt bode well for his title chances either.
Third, his matches are samey workrate matches where he lets smaller guys get their shit in. To truely get over he would need to come back with crush matches all over the midcard.
And finally he isn't a real character, theres three. The joking scotsman, angry drew and happy to be there McIntyre which he swaps in between and its too inconsistent to be interesting.

this is my gripe too. you see brock lesnar, who is a similar power type and kayfabe strength, absolutely crush midcarders and little guys.

that was basically him in his first reign, he basically bulldozed most of the midcarders kicking out of their finishers at like 1 but did have a bit of back and forth with the top guys but he mostly dominated. We kinda saw that again with Roman where and it was like their match at SS few years ago where he completelty dominated Roman and only lost because of shenanigans.

Really it's that they completely killed him.
People held hope for him the moment CATC was being rumored and then when he just upped and lost to the generic Roman Reigns match finish.

He's fine in the ring and even on the mic, I find he's more comfortable than Roman was as a face, but the booking around him has been horrendous. He got fucked hardest by Covid.
