Punk didn't join the main roster until 2008. The locker room was already sanitized by corporate policing by then. Prior to that, he was in WCW which was full of former indie shitters and C-listers.

He had his prime after Benoit and only spent a year or so on the main roster. He probably did his “happy to be here” schtick like he did in the beginning of AEW before he went full blown narcissist crybaby like he also did in AEW. He was hated in OVW too.

JBL was probably on a short leash after Benoit died. Punk can keep his narcissism in check in the beginning like he did in AEW. But when he has an opportunity he goes full blown narcissist crybaby rage. You don’t do that around tough ass men. The roster was a bunch of cucks around 2013.
