That was a little part of what stemmed the heat between AEW and NJPW in the beginning, NJPW had big plans for a singles heavyweight push for Trent when he moved up to Hwt, as he is friends with Okada. Chuckie T getting booked in NJPW at all was to butter up Trent/appease Okada and get Trent to stay . When AEW came around Trent kept dodging resigning with NJPW so he and Chuck could go there instead. NJPW management of the time (mainly Harold Meij) disliked this and felt Trent disrespected NJPW who had put stock in him for years and finally wanted to start making him a big singles star for the American market and TK came in and snapped him up/he left with The Bucks in 2019.
