Punk is legitimately one of the worst MMA fighters I have ever seen with world class coaching. Those Japanese guys like Shibata, Nagata, Takayama etc were shitty fighters but they were either good athletes or tough as fuck and outclassed. Punk literally looked like he had never been in a fight and it was his first day in a gym. Atrocious athlete.

Askren has shit hands for a pro fighter but punk was trying to parry strikes that weren’t there, hit counters to strikes that weren’t parried and couldn’t rechamber his kicks after throwing them. Punk had all the training one could need to succeed and he fucked it up. He also got plenty of forewarning about the fights. Shibata had like four fights in as many months at one point. Plus Shibata won some matches. He also incorporated some proper wrestling and striking into his pro wrestling work unlike Punk who is a total shitter. Damn near every pro wrestler is a fake tough guy but Punk really cemented that with his MMA "run".

You have to go back to the days of UFC in the single digits to find men with MMA careers as bad as Punk's (i.e., Harold Howard and Joe Son, though Harold at least won one fight via knockout).
