You'd never hear an MJF for instance say this about himself. Would completely bury himself. And that's what separates him from the rest. I'm all for stars in the industry who are bigger than the brand and breakout/crossover and can actually have leverage when it comes to negotiating contracts etc. Pro wrestlers in terms of labour have been historically criminally undervalued and compensated in terms of what they sacrifice of their physical and mental health for the promoters/companies who take the lion's share of money that their performances generate.
When you have stars who transcend their own companies and the prospect of seeing them elsewhere, say in the "other company" (whichever one that is to you) becomes attractive, that makes pro wrestling more exciting. Seeing guys swap sides during the Monday night wars for instance made the shows must watch/unmissable and brought an air of excitement to being a fan that I miss and wish newer fans could get to experience.
