Him feuding with Ambrose for SummerSlam had a lukewarm response and probably hurt Smackdown at the start of the split. It's a shame because Dolph really is talented and I think he should have Seth's spot in the company.

They never went all-in on Bryan. He was feuding with Kane after 'Mania in the semimain and was destined to drop the strap at Summerslam to Brock in a squash to build up Lesnar/Roman before injuries forced his retirement.

And I like Dolph, but Bryan's always been the better wrestler than Ziggler by some distance.
