Except that back then if Punk "left" it would be to wrestle in bingo halls. MJF in kayfabe wants to go to the rival company that they're obsessed with and that is also kicking the shit out of them.
WWE ran that story at a time where there was no other big player in the US. They wouldn't do the same today - just like when Austin was the anti-WWF/Vince character they never made it an angle that he wanted to go to WCW.

Only one of them is any good, maybe I can be convinced to say Darby as well because he does have a certain appeal. AEW will never draw a single penny off the backs of Jungle Boy and Sammy. MJF is their only "homegrown" young talent who in any way affects viewership.
