He got up from his crouch because he thought Sammy was going to do a quick flip. Sammy ended up taking a little longer to do the whole move and Bryan underestimated the setup time, probably because it's their first time doing this spot together. If he stays crouched until Sammy is on the top rope, then it would be perfect timing and he'd just stand up before Sammy hit him.

I'm not even an MJF mark but he's the only guy in AEW who I've seen stumble/sell or act distracted while waiting for an opponent to hit a dive. Like how he trash talked a fan while waiting for Darby's dive. It's little things like that. Also, it doesn't help that the camera work in AEW is worse than Lucha Underground at filming these dives.
