The danger is that they're declining and if you tried giving them shock therapy there's a chance that it would just cause things to fall apart even faster instead of fixing them, so the risk averse move is going to be sitting around and collecting a paycheck as the numbers steadily decline. Basically everything good in AEW came from long-term wrestlers having goodwill towards the company and selflessly trying to pitch in and give Tony advice. Now they've lost a lot of their sympathetic-image and people are just getting their paycheck, and Tony is plugging his ears even harder.
Their main problem is that their show doesn't actually have much going on. There's not much variety for different people to enjoy. The titles don't really mean anything. They don't have gimmick PPV's. And people talk about them having better matches, but literally every time I've tuned in to AEW I've seen guys giving these zero-impact strikes to each other. Normies aren't going to like that.
