  [Sad news]
Akira Maeda (63) recently watched a NOAH match involving Masakatsu Funaki (53), Kenou (37), Kazushi Sakuraka (53) and Hideki Suzuki (42), and shared his general thoughts on wrestling today.
>. It's just feels like they're getting along well. Wrestling is exciting when it makes the audience think, "Hey, maybe these guys are really going to crush each other." Where is that kind of atmosphere? There is nothing! If (Antonio) Inoki were watching this, he would have beaten all four of them to a pulp. Really. Even I would have beaten up all four of them.
>Wrestling is not just about what happens in the ring. You have to create a sense of tension before the match, as if to say, "If these guys fight, it's going to be a bad situation." Because there is no such tension, today's wrestling is just "play wrestling". In the midst of that, what they're doing is good. But [it's play wrestling] so the audience only claps their hands.
>[...] If things continue as they are now, there will be no wrestling in 10 years. The ring is full of comedy wrestlers. What kind of wrestler would lose in a fight with an amateur? [...] So I hope they do better. There are more indies now, you know. All I see is "anyone can become a pro-wrestler," and that's just terrible. I don't want to be lumped in with those guys. What's the point of being a pro-wrestler these days, really? It's not cool at all. I don't care about them anymore.
