Jervis was a failed Chikara wrestler with several gimmicks no one liked until he ended up being given the Jervis Cottonbelly gimmick when Quackenbush revived it after retiring it when the original Jervis quit. This happened around the time that Chikara came back from it's hiatus, caused by Mike getting divorced and bartering his kid for his wife's share of the company.
Condron was pissed that Mike was forcing everyone to work for less money while also engaging in a serial killer storyline to write off anyone who called him out on it/complained about their booking and just pissed him off. So Condron rage-quit and went to California, where he took the Jervis gimmick with him.... a bad thing since Quackenbush owned the gimmick.
Lawsuits were threatened and Condron ultimately agreed to change his character's name and look to become Gentleman Jervis instead of Jervis Cottonbelly. But along the way to making the settlement, Condron spilled all sorts of tea about Quack being a piece of shit, how the hiatus was purely because he divorced his wife after being caught fucking another woman, who was one of his students, and how Quack treated his wrestlers like dog shit while running Chikara as a cult, with loyalists as his inner circle and everyone else being useful idiots that Quack used and abused and fired when they got uppity.
