There's ways to work around a guy winning MitB but having no shot at the title. Like when Otis won MitB the year that had The Fiend holding the Universal Title. Rather than doing that whole stupid fucking angle where he had it stolen by The Miz of all people, I thought it would have been better to have The Fiend be the one haunting Otis, daring him to cash in.
Instead of the mind games the MitB holder usually does where they taunt the champion that they have their number at any time, it could have been reversed. Otis could have considered the briefcase a poisoned chalice because ever since winning it, he's earned the attention of a monster that's fucking daring him to try it.
He could have gone after Mandy and Tucker and really pushed Otis to breaking point. That way when they do the typical "champion is left laying after a hard fought PPV win but the briefcase holder comes out" angle, people will really get behind it because they'll have wanted Otis to capitalize. Then when Bray just stands the fuck up as Otis is handing the briefcase over and Otis realizes the mistake he's made and runs away, it can build to a big redemption angle of Otis finally facing his fears like a man and cashing in for a genuine 1 on 1 ppv main event match. The inevitable would happen, but the fans would get behind him even more for not being a little bitch, and Mandy could have been even more taken by him proving himself.
But instead they got the Miz and JBL involved and derailed Drew's career instead.
