Wasn't the idea that Cody would never challenge for the title? The easiest way around it is for the challenge to come from the champion. Cody starts fucking with the champion and annoys him so much that the champion challenges Cody to a title match. Would have been a dimes printer but Tony is so brainless and brown it would never happen.

One of the first big online criticisms when AEW was starting is that everyone thought the elite would just book themselves to be champion and go over everybody so Cody came up with this plan to appease internet smarks. Its a good idea but not for his first (?) challenge. Cody should have had a run with the belt or maybe two before throwing in the "I'll never challenge for it again if I lose" gimmick. Or have it that he won't challenge for a year or two.
