Looking back, what was the actual point of dropping the title two weeks before the PPV?

If they just did the one match on the PPV, Tony would've had to decide between beating Punk in Chicago or beating Mox thus delegitimizing his interim title run over the summer (which people already had issues with). The issue was that trading wins would make it harder to sell the second match as a PPV main event, so they did the squash instead to kick the heat up instead. It's a clever booking idea from Mox given the situation, shame that Punk fucked it up.

That's it.
Because it was stupid to hang the "interim" addition to on the belt to begin with. Punk dropped the title once he was confirmed unable to compete. Tony fucked it up because he absolutely needed Punk to be the champ even when he was injured for some god awful reason.
And Punk refused to put over Mox clean because he was taking Page-Bucks side of the other argument, so he faked an injury, which lead to Mox fucking over the All Out with his Shawn Michaels impression and making Punk GTS him 3 fucking times.
