>>7955787I bet there are rules. Spanish is the same and there are rules for knowing if a word is masculine or femenine. When it comes to objects or subjects that have neutral gender, in Spanish they need to have a gramatical gender since there's no true neutral gender, so basically if a words ends in "a" that word is feminine, and if it ends in "o" then it is masculine. That's how you decide when to use "la" or "el" for words that are neutral.There are more complex rules, but that's a simple way to tell.
So for example "lucha libre" would be feminine even if "lucha" isn't supposed to have gender ("libre" is an adjective so it doesn't have gender, "lucha" is the word that tells you the gender)
I guess French is similar, as far as I know, is the other language that doesn't actually have neutral gender
