3rd best in the beach boys discography. But thats only cause pet sounds is perfect and smile sessions are nearly perfect.
really love the lofi parts of smiley, BUT Heros and Villians, and Good Vibrations are inconsistent with the rest of the album and it takes me out of it. Not to mention theres better versions of both songs on Smile Sessions.
Keep in mind im a zoomer who had access to smile sessions from the moment i discovered beach boys. So maybe thats why i like smile sessions better.
Anywho i just fucking love the beach boys and you gave me an opportunity to share my opinion. So thanks.

smiley smile is my favourite album. i get what you mean about heroes and villains and good vibrations feeling inconsistent but i think it adds to the overall unhinged nature of the album. it's the last beach boys album i checked out, until then my favourite was pet sounds. i much prefer the chaos and lo-fi on smiley smile. it reminds me of mr. bungle.
