Non gimmicked ones - yes, they are designed to splinter off and just completely fuck the wound they make in order to get it infected.

Gimmicked ones - lol no, there are no fragments coming off when you see someone getting hit with them - which means it's not doing it's primary purpose, which is giving them the worst splinters of their life.

The gimmicked ones look and are probably lame. The proper ones fucking hurt when they pinch your skin, or splinter off as >>8075149 said. Unless they're using non-gimmicked ones, the kendo shots are just there because they're safer than even modern chairs.
