It was apparently only $5 million so it was probably worth it. Continuing to run shows, and push them heavily on AEW to the detriment of Dynamite and Rampage? Probably not a good idea.

The video library, while would love to be made available, is useless. The guys who have become stars are so far back in ROH history none of that footage was shot in HD. The CM Punk/Joe trilogy is probably their most marketable match in 2022, and all those matches have some of the worst lighting in ROH history, including the show they did in England that was inside a tent. And I think the second match has a constant buzzing noise that makes it unwatchable after the initial hype.

all he bought was a video library and some belts. the name and brand is totally worthless and pretty much always has been. was the library a good investment? 99% of it not even semi-hardcore wrestling fans give a shit about. people at the time were trying to say it was a good business move because the library would "sweeten the pot" for streaming deals, but i really dont think it would lol. it is seriously almost worthless. hardly anybody watched this shit when it was new nevermind 15 years later, and it's really poor quality. out of thousands of hours theres about 20 matches people will bother watching, the rest is literal whos wrestling in front of 100 people

either way it was never about being a legitimate business move for tony. he is an ROH turbo mark from mid 2000s wrestling forums. he just wanted to own and run ring of honor. that's all there is to it

This. $5000000 is literally nothing when Tony Khan has a fortune of $7000000000. Even the salaries of AEW talent cost $3500000/month, which is almost the same as the whole cost of ROH, it's nothing. He could've paid $70000000 and it would have been nothing. AEW makes a profit of $1500000/month.

From a business perspective Tony Khan entering wrestling at all was a bad investment.

But it's not about business or breaking even, let alone making a profit, it's just an autistic rich kid's vanity project and ROH is just an expansion pack to that.

In the end that's the biggest difference between Tony and Vince -- Vince MADE his billions from wrestling, whereas Tony SPENDS his billions on it. These are not the same.

I dont even know if it was good for wrestling as whole. Indie scene went to shit. NJPW and every other promotion thats now AEW or WWE is doing worse since few years back. except GCW.
Vince would probably be out even if AEW wasnt thing. NXT wouldnt have gone to shits. Question is. Would HHH get his heart attack. Would vince go as crazy if AEW never happened. before AEW. WWE had massive bloated roster. Year into AEW. they started to fire everyone. would that happen? At best, almost everyone who is getting paid now would be getting paid. At worst. Indie scene would be better.

You can't blame AEW for the indie scene going to hell. Before AEW even existed, WWE was literally buying up every indie and indie wrestler, giving them a shit dumb gimmick and new name, putting them on TV to look like an autistic retard, then shelving them for the rest of their contract.
