If i recall correctly he wasn't specifically based on anybody. Aronofsky wasn't that aware of the true nature of pro wrestling and was approaching the story in a more "washed-down rockstar" way. I think he said he didn't respect wrestling before making the film and that he recognized all the effort and all the passion the guys invested in their matches after meeting real wrestlers on the set.
