But yes, Kurt did sacrifice his body for nothing. The lifestyle he's left with at the end of the day is a pretty sober middle class life except he has to suffer through it like a cripple -- even an accountant has him beat in life quality -- so it's not like he even got rich off of it. Wrestling is a bum profession desu.

The only other way of looking at it is -- what would most wrestlers have done with their lives otherwise? Guys like Hogan or Flair or Dusty Rhodes or Undertaker would've been working class nobodies if not for wrestling. So wrestling is probably their best life outcome.

Kurt Angle is one of the few guys who I think could've done better than waste his life & body on pro wrestling. At least Brock has milked it for all that it's worth, but Kurt gave more than he got.

Angle has had many classics against HBK, Benoit, Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, Brock, Eddie, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe. He even dragged shitters like Edge and Cena and Booker T to really good matches

Well, Rulon Gardner got fat as fuck and lost a few toes to frostbite and survived a planecrash and had to file Chapter 11, but I'd still rather be him than Angle. I'm sure Rulon's still in quite a bit of pain every day, but surely not on the level of Kurt, and I believe he's even still married.

You pretty much have to be crazy to be a top-level wrestler. Shoot or pro. It's a brutal world, and the pay's usually not great even if you do get some money.

Shawn Michaels has talked about who he knew he was going to come out of wrestling physically fucked so the best he could manage was to be financially independent. Interestingly he's talked about how he doesn't believe that to be some crazy sacrifice so I imagine other wrestlers feel the same.
