You want to blame capeshit, which is natural I suppose. But what you need to be aware of is that capeshit and wrestling used to share the same headspace.
It's only become over the last 15 years or so that capeshit has become mainstream, along with most other "geek" pasttimes/hobbies/fandoms.
But wrestling didn't get pulled along with the tide. for whatever reason. It's remained in the dust, and its consumptions is still shameful to normies.
Probably because it was so jock-adjacent about the time capeshit was starting to blow up.
