It was great. It was not an all-time classic, but it was great.
Starks proving why he belongs in the main event scene but also why he shouldn't be the top guy just yet. Lot of fire, lots of great lines, couple stumbles with quick recoveries.
MJF was MJF.
Probably the best promo segment not involving CM Punk this year.

Was having a hard time taking Ricky Starks seriously as a world championship competitor with the way he has been booked, this could've easily just been a one and done cold match on dynamite before moving MJF onto a more established opponent. I think this did well to legitimize it as a feud though given the circumstances, hopefully Ricky has earned some regular TV time.

I watched it to see what they hype was. It was fine. Starks comes off as a bit unnatural and unconfident while trying to play someone confident and natural. He seemed uncomfortable and taken aback with getting the reaction he did lol. anyway the real point is that after MJF beats him, he'll get pushed back down to obscurity and fans will say they dropped the ball on him and that they never capitalised on whatever momentum he gained from this promo and match. This is what happens every single time there's a "star making performance" and idk why they keep falling for it.

He really did remind me a lot of The Rock with that promo, and in a good way. You could make a good argument that he should win and AEW should do for him what they should've done for MJF and make him their top babyface. Tony'll ignore every word of said argument, but it can still be made.

I enjoy the general "weirdness" of Starks. It makes him stand out in the sea of generic indie-style promos you see a lot of in AEW.
Unfortunately for him, it's MJFs first real feud as champ so he'll be going over strong.
Hopefully they'll be able to transition Starks into another good feud after without him disappearing from tv for months and killing his momentum with the fans.
