It's cute that we think of it like this but there was a bunch of outlaws too. St. Joseph, MO, had its own company that partnered with Central States out of Kansas City but wasn't Central States. I grew up in rural Iowa, I would've had outlaws in neighboring towns during carnivals. It isn't like my folks would drive over an hour to Waterloo for a weekly show.

He was WWWF. Part of the agreement of rejoining the NWA was keeping their title. It was allowed because VJM controlled Andre the Giant and wouldn't loan him out to draw a house on a battle royal.

You're missing the point. Being an NWA member meant two things, both equally important:
>1. Recognizing the NWA champion as the only world champion
>2. Not running shows in another territory
Vince Sr stopped recognizing the NWA champion in 1963. From then on, fans in the country's most populous market viewed the NWA as a minor league.

My dad also told me how he was a Dick the Bruiser fan. I am fascinated by the idea that many of our fathers also were into pro wrestling as kids. The business was so different but you know that to them a guy like Dick the Bruiser was one of the baddest men on the planet in the same way we would look at Brock or even Austin.
