Suzuki doesn't like wrestling in NJPW much anymore and I imagine he isn't wanting to get properly overthrown by someone so I guess he's just ending it like this so NJPW can be the ones to pick what to do with the boys. I hope Zack and Taichi stay together at least.

Yeah, NJPW doesn't push grandpas. They treat them respectfully, even sort of have a grandpa sort of division, but once you're a certain age in NJPW, you don't see the top of the card anymore.

Even someone as vaunted as Tanahashi has been pushed to the midcard by his age. It's what differentiates NJPW from NOAH, DDT, AJPW, and other companies which have traditionally pushed wrestlers heavily from older generations.
Suzuki is treated in NJPW just like the other grandpas but for some reason, people love booking him strong in the US even though he can't bump anymore so he's probably just going to ride that out then retire.

Yeah, a few older guys hold up really well. Suzuki was one of them until 2-3 years ago when he started heavily slowing down.
But the problem is when you start pushing one older guy, egos get involved and other older guys start expecting the same treatment. If you don't push them, they leave and go to some smaller fed (usually NOAH, DDT, AJPW, etc) and take spots from their guys over there. Fucking Nakajima has been around forever but somehow he still feels like a young guy because he's having to job to grandpas (like the shittier Suzuki). And that's not good for business which is reflected in the numbers of shows they put on, the attendance, etc.

Nakajima's only 34. He's actually NOAH's second youngest main event guy besides Kaito at 26. Kenoh's a bit older at 37. Heck Go's only 40 and Marufuji 43.
