Stone cold has the shatter
Carder got the gong
Bret has that inital shred of the guitar
Shawn has the girls moaning
Modern themes are lacking that strong sound effect at the beginning, it helps condition the crowd to pop or boo.

I think it's an era thing
more 80s themes went straight into the main riff immediately. the main riff _was_ the sound effect that cued you to pop
90s/2000s themes more often have the sound effect

This is thing that makes rumble entrances recognizable in the first second, not the overall quality of the theme like I see idiots posting here.
